Daniel 3: Serve God No Matter What

Begin each devotional with a prayer that God would open the eyes of your understanding.

Day 1

Scripture:

Daniel 3:1-12

Observations:

  1. Exodus 20:3 says, “You must not have any other god but me” (NLT). How did King Nebuchadnezzar go against this command?

  2. What do you think may have been the king’s motives in doing this?

Application:

  1. In what way might you being trying to promote yourself rather than submitting to God?

  2. What person, idea or thing are you being tempted to set above God in your life?

Pray:

Ask God to open your eyes and reveal any dark places in your heart. Repent of anything that He shows you.

Day 2

Scripture:

Daniel 3:13-23

Observations:

  1. How did Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego respond to the king’s degree?

  2. How did King Nebuchadnezzar respond to their defiance?

Application:

  1. In what way is your faith in God being challenged right now?

  2. In what unhealthy way do you respond when people don’t do what you want them to?

Pray:

Ask God to give you the grace and wisdom to respond in a godly manner.

Day 3

Scripture:

Daniel 3:24-30

Observations:

  1. What happened when Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were thrown into the fire?

  2. How did the king react to this unusual turn of events?

Application:

  1. Pastor Steve taught us the meaning of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego’s Hebrew names: Hananiah (God is gracious), Mishael (Who is like God), Azariah (God is our help).  Choose one of these and write about how God demonstrated this characteristic through this situation.

  2. In Genesis 50:20, Joseph tells his brothers, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people” (NLT). How did God turn this terrible situation around for the good of many?

Pray:

Praise God for His wonderful attributes that are revealed through this story.
